Fast Facts: Champagne
"Champagne" is derived from the Latin word "campagna," meaning a wide open space or plain, and the word "campus" (compania) meaning field.
Champagne with a capital "C" is strictly reserved for the sparkling wine produced in the Champagne region of France.

The French method of making Champagne is called Methode Champenoise and Methode Traditionelle. This is aged in bottles up to 6 years.
Most Champagne connoisseurs agree that for taste the magnum size bottle is preferred.
Champagne should be chilled at 40 to 45 degrees Fahrenheit. When kept in a cellar, Champagne should be kept at 40 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit away from direct light.
